After the quake
The 15th of October 2013 Bohol Island was hit by a strong earthquake – Mw 7.2 on the Richter Scale.
Large part of the island was affected and the incident caused 222 reported dead and 976 injured.
The infrastructure was also affected, but the good news is, that all major roads and bridges are already restored. As a motorcyclist you therefore would have no problems getting around.
Especially the northwestern part of Bohol was hit, and going there you would still see buildings and landscape affected. But the Boholanos are strong and with the aid of international and local government and NGO´s the reconstruction has brought the situation somehow back to normal.
Panglao Island and Alona Beach was not in any way affected by the earthquake.
If you want to help
Although much has been done to relief the pain and damage after the earthquake still much is to be done.
Many families are still living in shelters, waiting to be able to reconstruct their homes.
Financial help is still very welcome and needed. If you want to contribute to the relief for the victims, we suggest that you support the The Philippine Red Cross:
Another way to sustain the affected areas would be to support the local businesses.
